And the 2008 Presidential Election Goes To...

The Republicans have a very good chance of winning the 2008 Presidential election. I know, we just finished with a midterm election where the Democrats gained a majority in both branches of congress. I also know that people are sick and tired of the way the Republicans have handled this war. At this point, though, the country is still split about 50/50 along party lines, and going forward, the Democrats aren’t going to have many opportunities to gain headway.

What? They have a majority but aren’t going to be able to gain headway, while the Republicans have a minority and have every chance of winning!? Exactly!

The best Republican strategy right now would be to sacrifice Bush on the altar of political expediency. It wouldn’t even be a huge sacrifice, seeing as he can’t run for president again. The Republicans just have to follow a few simple steps.

It’s as simple as that. President Bush can be portrayed as a right wing nut, while the Democrats can be portrayed as clearly party biased. I mean, the pushed through the bill in the first place by voting as a whole, right?

Meanwhile, these level-headed Republicans come along, and in a sense of bi-partisanship and cooperation push past a president from their own party to work with the Democrats. That’s not even a hard line to sell.

I also said the Democrats can’t do much, and they really can’t. Without the help of a fair number of Republicans, who, remember, can spin this help for large amounts of political capital, the Democrats can’t push anything past a presidential veto. Without passing any bills, they’ll be shown as going back on all their promises that got them elected this midterm.

  2. I might be wrong, I can’t claim to see the future. And I’m aware of what the Democrats have accomplished, as I stated above. Unfortunately, they’re in a very hard place, politically speaking. They can’t pass any bills past a presidential veto without Republican help, and President Bush has shown he’s more than willing to veto. This gives the Republicans the opportunity to carry the bi-partisan flag and beat their own drum.
